The structure, rules, and regulations of a sober living home make it possible for residents to have access to a clean and safe space where they can adjust to life in sobriety. It is important to recognize that these rules and regulations are not designed as a punishment for residents — but as a means for them to thrive and succeed in sobriety. The rules are not designed to limit the freedom of residents, but to empower them.
Sober living house is an intermediary place for the inpatient and the outside world. House Rules & General Expectations
Sober living houses are alcohol and drug-free environments where residents can establish or maintain their sobriety. Through peer support, proven recovery principles, peer empowerment, and individual responsibility, residents can solidify their sobriety and prepare to return home or live independently. Private owners usually own these homes, but charities and businesses may also own sober living houses.
Every “new resident” entering a DB House must adhere by any and all conditions of the new resident blackout period. DB House requires strict adherence to these conditions as well as all Rules & Guidelines. If someone has broken curfew, there are typically consequences such as being kicked out of the house with no other place to go or having their privileges revoked.
Sober Living House Privileges
Most homes are located within residential neighborhoods. If you live in a recovery house, you may either have your own room or share one with a roommate. Most of the time, residents share communal spaces, like kitchens, living rooms, and backyards. Treatment/outpatient, church, sponsor meetings, counseling, etc., do not count as meetings.b.
